Created in 1989,
the
association “Les Après-Midi de Saint-Loup” produces concerts of baroque
music in a unique environment; the Romanesque
church
of Saint-Loup, in the heart of the unspoilt
village of Saint-Loup de Naud. The village of nine hundred inhabitants
is
situated
close to the medieval town of Provins, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
In recent years the association has extended its productions to include concerts in eight further villages in the Provinois area. The association’s
agenda now programmes a season which commences in May and closes with a Christmas concert in the church of Saint-Loup de Naud. The concerts bring together French and foreign musicians in programmes of baroque music rarely presented in France, often played on period instruments long disappeared, which have been reconstructed by celebrated craftsmen.
The concerts enable the association to give financial support to the restoration of the listed church of Saint-Loup de Naud, and contribute considerably to the promotion of music in the Île-de-France area. Information regarding
tourism can be found on this site.
The exceptional charm of the different villages, the quality of the music and the musicians, and the originality of the concerts presented have assured the productions of a solid reputation, and the association is fortunate to have the support of a faithful public and other
partners .
The tiny village of Saint-Loup de Naud does not have sufficient financial resources to undertake alone the restoration necessary to preserve this enormous church, and the remarkable statuary of its magnificent Gothic entrance.
